Commonly called a "Baby 8", so called because it's a simple implementation. Can be done, but requires a trigger-sized pulse on input. Portamento (aka slew rate controller aka glide). Knob version fairly simple. CV version maybe possible, but a much bigger circuit. Haven't found a simple circuit that generates a sequence of 8 minimum to point out as soon.
